Intern Operations Research & Data Science - 12 Months (80-100%)

Location: Wangen b. Düb. &/or Geneva 
When: 01 August 2026 or upon availability 

Your mission:

In this role, you will work at the intersection of data science, operations and aviation, contributing directly to improving how airspace is designed and operated. This involves analyzing business data and developing mathematical models to enhance performance, support strategic planning and identify improvement opportunities. You'll also assist the Operations Transformation team in driving change within the organization.

Your tasks:

  • Design, build and maintain a new staffing tool prototype for the main operational units, including traffic forecasting, airspace configuration and rostering optimisation components
  • Gather and propose staffing guidelines; build visualisations to analyse and compare scenarios and support data-driven strategic decision-making
  • Design and build statistical analyses, simulations and predictive models to answer business questions using tools such as Python, Power BI, Excel…
  • Contribute to the quantitative evaluation of future airspace organization scenarios
  • Conduct research and benchmark missions, using the data to identify areas of opportunity and propose potential solutions
  • Engage directly with Skyguide Air Traffic Controllers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure validity of your methodology and assumptions

What we are looking for:

  • Currently studying or recently graduated (Master’s) in engineering, operations research, computer science, data science or aviation management
  • Good working knowledge of a programming language (e.g. Python) with ability to quickly manipulate data, identify trends and present insights
  • Demonstrable experience with visualization techniques, best practices and associated tools (e.g. Power BI, tableau)
  • Interest in aviation, transport systems or complex operations is a plus
  • Problem-solving: You seek accurate information to analyze problems, break down complex issues into manageable parts, and approach solutions in a systematic and structured way
  • Self-discipline: You set boundaries, manage your time effectively, and maintain focus on tasks without distractions
  • Communication: You adapt your communication style to the context and stakeholders and actively ask for information through relevant questions and active listening
  • Proficient in English, good command in French and/or German is a plus
